Health Surveillance

Companies with at least one employee, after having carried out the risk assessment are required to activate the health surveillance by a competent doctor.

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Consolidation Act, Health Surveillance is defined as the set of medical acts,
aimed at protecting the state of health and safety of workers, in relation to the work environment, occupational risk factors and
the way in which the work activity is carried out

THE THREE MAIN PURPOSES OF OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE

The Occupational Doctor

Companies are obliged to appoint a Competent Doctor, a professional figure
professional in charge of implementing Health Surveillance for companies.
This role can be carried out primarily by medical specialists in
Occupational Medicine, but also by specialists in Hygiene and
Preventive and/or Legal and Insurance Medicine upon completion of
of a specific postgraduate course.
Like other physicians, he is registered with the appropriate order and is included in the lists
public lists of competent physicians of the Ministry of Health.

The competent physician visits workplaces at least once a year.

A competent physician aims at the physical well-being of personnel and the healthiness of work spaces: he used to be limited to the physical-health assessment of the worker, but now he is involved from the very beginning of the company's internal prevention process alongside the employer and the responsible company figures.

The competent doctor is a reference to the different figures in the company: primarily for the employees, the employer and the company roles with focus on prevention and safety (RSPP, RLS, Travel Manager, HSE Manager, etc.).

The Competent Doctor draws up health protocols, which establish, after the risk assessment of each individual work task, the periodicity of examinations and the type of health checks to be carried out to verify the worker's fitness for work.

It is the task of the Medical Officer to certify the suitability of a person for a specific task, analyzing the risk situations, related to the presence of occupational diseases, alcohol and drug abuse, and the clinical and genetic history of the user but also of family members.

The competent physician sends a collective anonymous report annually to INAIL on the overall health status of personnel

If the company has more than 15 employees, the competent physician attends the Annual Periodic Meeting called by the Employer

The competent physician maintains relations with the Territorial Bodies
